After learning the truth about Garos and the sordid, hidden past of the Niflheim, Tristan becomes determined to become
Risan again, this time permanently, so that he can spend the rest of his life with Insa and the baby. News of his decision
spreads through the kingdom, quickly reaching Skokan, his valet, who is none too pleased with the idea of losing his prince
and letting the kingdom fall into anarchy. As Tristan is visiting with Insa, Skokan interrupts, freezing Insa to speak
privately with Tristan. He begs Tristan to reconsider this foolish crusade, but Tristan is dead set on getting what
he wants. Left with no choice, and stating that he acts for the good of Niflheim, Skokan produces a syringe and injects
something into Insa.
As Skokan departs, Insa unfreezes. At first, she seems perfectly fine, but rather abruptly doubles over in pain.
Tristan quickly runs to get Casey and finds her in the kitchen with Quinn. After explaining the situation, Casey goes
up to the room, asking Tristan and Quinn to find out what was in the syringe. The duo depart, intent on tracking Skokan
down through the network of shadows. Unfortunately, they find themselves in a dark chamber, filled with whispering.
There are no shadows through which they can escape, but they discover their old friend, Jaan, who had been missing for months.
Jaan is near hysteria, afraid of a female figure that's been haunting him. He explains that he tried to track Skokan
down too and that's how he wound up in the place. He's been trapped ever since.
A young Kokiri girl skips into the scene. Jaan explains that she's an illusion, one of many that he's seen in this
strange place. Her name is Schelle. She warns them about a figure called the White Woman and even uses some of
Skokan's own sentiments about individuals. Before she can explain who she is, however, the White Woman appears, casting
Schelle into darkness. Jaan, however, manages to pull both Quinn and Tristan safely into an endless, dark hallway as
the screams from Schelle echo off of the walls after them. He explains that the same scene plays out every day, again
and again. Tristan marvels that the dialogue sounds exactly like Skokan's twisted philosophy in which nothing matters
but the order and well-being of Niflheim. Jaan is unsurprised.
The group pass a mirror mounted on a black wall. Jaan's reflection in the silver surface is that of a clown.
When he suggests Tristan stand in front of it, Tristan's reflection becomes that of some kind of savior, complete with a halo.
Quinn, meanwhile, when he takes his turn, has no reflection at all. Screams again fill the air, but this time, they
are clearly coming from Insa's voice. Tristan utterly panics, but Jaan continues on in a calm, rational manner.
He asks Quinn why they were following Skokan and Quinn explains about the attack. Sadly, Jaan admits he suspected Skokan
would try something. Just then, the group pass a pair of windows that seem to be looking into Insa's bathroom where
Insa is in the midst of heavy labor. On the other side, Casey almost seems to see the three of them, but when her voice
calls out, the windows go black.
Jaan casually explains that the view from the windows changes all the time. It becomes the Niflheim throne room.
Schelle returns on the scene, good as new, and playfully tells Quinn and Tristan that the White Woman is always trying to
destroy her, but can never completely get rid of her. Love is forever. They realize that Schelle must have been
Skokan's soulmate, a doomed situation since a Kokiri child could never grow up. The White Woman returns and chases her
off again. The view outside of the windows, meanwhile, starts to change. Uri comes into sight. When Quinn
sends a telepathic cry for help out to him, suddenly, the three Niflheim find a golden door that leads them out to Niflheim
where Skokan and Uri are waiting.
It is revealed that the boys were stuck in Skokan's mind, a trap that was set for Jaan months ago, to keep him from meddling
with Skokan's plots to keep Tristan and Insa apart. Passionately, Skokan defends his actions, but Uri decides to punish
him severely for harming a living creature. Meanwhile, back at the House, Insa delivers a premature baby girl.
She is named Nessa Anatou Theos.
