Finding the Inner Beast

Insa's moping has been annoying everyone, especially Lucien and Tristan who continually try to convince her that she can still have a life, even with Nessa.  Her spirits are lifted considerably, however, by the visit of a Risan hoplite named Typhon.  Typhon explains that he has been sent to the Phoenix House at the behest of the Avatar Emcee, who believes that a dangerous ex-pat is on her way to Shaldani to cause trouble for the Phoenix Fighters.  All of the women of the House are immediately drawn to the handsome Typhon, leading to some jealousy, but for the most part, he manages to brighten everyone with his charming, easy-going attitude.  It is only Aden who is put ill at ease by his unusual aura.

Shortly after Typhon's arrival, a blue shockwave rages through the House, knocking all of the non-Risans unconscious.  When they wake, they have all been transformed into Risans.  This leads to much confusion, especially for poor Quinn, and to accusations.  At first, Typhon is fingered, but Insa provides him an alibi.  As the Phoenix Fighters converge on the lobby to investigate what's going on, a young Risan woman appears, holding a wooden staff.  Typhon fingers her as the ex-pat and she gloats, taking credit for the spell.  They are unable to catch her, however, and she escapes.  Typhon expresses certainty, that she will return to fulfill whatever plan she's come up with sometime soon, so everyone agrees to wait.

After a few nights, the new Risan begin to feel weaker and weaker.  When Casey runs a scan, she discovers that all of them have gone from Risan to Human.  Convinced that the strange Risan girl is somehow connected to the Niflheim, due to her staff, Casey implores Tristan to try and track her down before the spell goes any worse.  Tristan reluctantly agrees and slips into the shadows.  He finds the girl in the middle of Shaldani and confronts her about her actions.  The girl reveals that she's from the future, a bad future, and that her actions will make everything better in the long run, especially for Tristan himself.  In her world, Insa forgot what it meant to be herself, to be a Risan warrior, and was mercilessly killed.  The girl is acting in the hopes of avoiding that loss.

The next day, those under the spell continue to devolve.  From Humans, they change into Gels, Hylian creatures that are essentially nothing more than amorphous blobs of tissue.  Tristan discovers the Risan girl in the lobby, trying to re-cast her spell.  He tries to stop her, but they are interrupted by Typhon and Insa.  The girl manages to easily take down Insa, but in the confusion, Milady arrives at the Phoenix House.  She has seen the damage of the girl's spell and is eager to kidnap her.  Tristan has no problem with Milady taking the girl, but Typhon objects, suddenly announcing that the girl is Tristan and Insa's daughter.

Milady throws a smoke bomb and chaos erupts in the lobby.  Milady tries to drag the adult Nessa out of the House, but Tristan gets in the way.  Everyone is shocked when Insa steps up and beats the living daylights out of Milady.  Bloody and broken, Milady barely manages to escape with her life after knocking Insa out with chemicals.  Typhon forces the adult Nessa to undo her spell and explains to Tristan that he came on behalf of the PTB, who knew that Nessa was going to try to reawaken Insa's Risan spirit by surrounding her with Risans.  However misguided, it seems that Nessa's plans have worked.  When Insa recovers from the battle, she announces her intentions to rejoin the strike team and become a warrior again.
