When rumors fly about an Ebene attack planned on the city of Tuvok, the Phoenix Fighters strike team decide to put in an appearance.  They arrive just after sunset and, oddly enough, no attack takes place.  Nevertheless, they divide up and do a thorough search of the area.  Everything seems normal until they return to the House and Adriana notices Aden's behavior is somewhat strange.  He shirks some of his duties and even skips the morning strike, spending most of the day in bed.  Adriana catches him in the basement and questions him about his behavior.  He promptly response by biting her on the neck.

Adriana screams, causing Philip and Ariadne to come to her rescue.  They tackle Aden and knock him unconcious, but the conclusion is inevitable.  Aden was attacked by vampires and is clearly one of them now.  Frantic, Adriana races through her books to try and find a cure for vampirism.  Tranns, meanwhile, is thrown into despair and finds comfort in Lucien.  Despite everyone telling her that it's impossible to change a vampire back into a mortal, Adriana finds an obscure reference to using the blood of a half vampire, half mortal.  She and Tranns recall that Adriana and Philip's mother, Kally, adopted such a child, but in this time, the boy, Liam, is a toddler and cannot lose so much blood.

Through Casey, Adriana arranges a device to travel into the future, jumping into the body of her own future counterpart.  There, she finds herself in the Summer homestead in Hyrule, where the entire Summer/Miller family is gathering for a celebration.  Adriana connects to her stepfather, James, and also manages to fool and befriend her half sisters Danielle and Mycene.  Through them, she learns that she is engaged to the Aden of that timeline and that he will be arriving as well for the party.

When Aden shows up, Adriana is overjoyed to see him.  He is quite loving and affectionate.  Adriana uses all of her willpower to concentrate on her mission and, after another day or so, Liam arrives.  Liam is very much a younger mirror image of James.  He sings and dances and tells jokes and Adriana finds him quite friendly.  So friendly, in fact, that she hesistates to ask him immediately for his blood.  He departs to change from his travels and Danielle and Mycene bombard Adriana with questions about her upcoming wedding.

Time passes and Adriana grows concerned when Liam does not return for dinner.  She goes upstairs to his room and finds the door open.  In the bathroom, she discovers a bound and gagged Liam hanging upside down over a symbol painted on the floor in blood.  Aden appears behind her, grinning, and she realizes that he is not the Aden of this timeline, he is the vampire version of Aden from the past who managed to escape the Phoenix House after slaughtering half of the Phoenix Fighters.  He gloats over his victory and means to kill Liam so that he cannot be cured of vampirism.  Adriana sends a panicked telepathic message to Mycene and Danielle who charge into the room with stakes.  A fight breaks out and, in the end, Adriana stakes Aden who turns to dust.

Adriana reveals the true nature of her mission to Liam, Mycene, and Danielle, before taking some of Liam's blood.  With a sad farewell, Adriana returns to the past and restores Aden by tricking him into drinking Liam's blood.  Aden awakens, claiming to remember none of the events of his time as a vampire.  Everyone is quite happy.  Privately, Aden admits to Tranns, however, that he has full memories, but doesn't want the things he said as a vampire to destroy his relationship with Adriana.
